Residents will be moving into homes sooner at multiple Renewal SA development sites in the wake of a round of successful funding applications.

An estimated 3,641 houses will be fast-tracked at Seaton, Thebarton, Playford, and Noarlunga, with funding secured to expedite the supply of power, water, sewage, and other essential infrastructure.

The investment in South Australian projects is part of the National Housing Support Program, a measure to help achieve the National Housing Accord’s target of building 1.2 million new, well-located homes over the next five years.

Renewal SA applied for funds to support its significant pipeline of residential developments from a $500 million federal pool set aside to help state, territory, and local governments enable the infrastructure needed to support new housing developments.

Renewal SA’s Executive Director of Residential Project Delivery and Assets, Peter Gatsios, said the funding would help expedite the delivery of much-needed homes across Adelaide.

“We are already working at pace to deliver thousands of homes across the state, but this funding will help fast track stages of projects earmarked for years ahead,” Mr Gatsios said.

“The funding will support developments in key areas and will help alleviate some of the housing supply issues in outer metropolitan areas.”

Supported projects include:

  • Seaton: $7.28 million will be invested in water and sewer works to help deliver 1,450 new homes, 20% of which will be offered as affordable housing opportunities through both rental and sale, as well as the construction of more than 400 Housing Trust.
  • Thebarton: $34.76 million will be invested in sewer installation and the delivery of a mobility hub at the transformation of the former West End Brewery site, set to uphold a new standard of inner-city living for thousands of residents over the next decade.
  • Playford Alive: $15 million will be invested in the delivery of a new roundabout at the intersection of Curtis and Heaslip Road, with associated road upgrades to support rapidly expanding residential developments in the area.
  • Noarlunga: $9.82 million will be invested in water and sewer works for the forthcoming residential development to deliver more than 600 new homes by 2031.

Renewal SA continues to work with local, state, and federal governments, as well as private developers, to accelerate the delivery of housing, recently unveiling $2 billion worth of new projects to be delivered across the state.
