The extension of St Clair Avenue to join Woodville Road will provide a vital primary access point for the remaining parcel of land to be developed while improving safety and traffic flows, particularly around Woodville High School.

Work will start soon on the $1.9 million contract, which is expected to take four months, weather permitting, and support about 35 jobs. The contract for the extension was awarded to Richmond Civil Works, a local South Australian company, following a tender process.

In the interests of minimising disruption, local residents have been informed in advance of the impending works.

Of the extension Renewal SA General Manager of Property Management, Michael Buchan, said, “The extension of St Clair Avenue is part of the overall plan to create a highly liveable, family-friendly environment at St Clair, while still enabling easy vehicle access.”

In late 2010, Renewal SA committed to constructing a new road that would enable Brocas Avenue to remain closed to through traffic. This was part of a broader range of initiatives to consolidate open space, including the St Clair development, and to limit traffic around of Woodville High School and facilitate urban development close to public transport.

Renewal SA is also now in discussion with a shortlist of proponents to deliver a quality planned residential development on the remaining parcel of land at St Clair, adjoining St Clair Avenue on the south west side.

The St Clair development has a strong focus on lifestyle opportunities, with 22 hectares, or 35% of the total land area, dedicated to open space. This includes landscaped gardens, playing fields, green open spaces and picnic areas parklands and wetlands including ten reserves. It also features a continuous belt of walking and cycling trails encompassing the boundary along Cheltenham Parade and the railway corridor.

St Clair is also helping to provide affordable housing within 10 kilometres of the CBD, a key priority for the state government.
