Works Program member wearing high-vis clothing and a hard hat at a construction site featuring new homes at various stages of construction on a cloudy day.

As a young refugee, George did not speak English and had never been to school when he first arrived in Australia more than 10 years ago.

After working hard on his English while doing night shifts at a bakery, George was introduced to Renewal SA’s Works Program when not-for-profit, youth empowerment organisation yourtown won a small works contract to paint the exterior of Renewal SA’s Bowden project office.

Since then he's faced every opportunity and challenge with the positive attitude, enthusiasm and strong work ethic he's come to be known for at now-employer, Melisi Projects.

In an Adelaide Review article, read all about George and his journey, from the war-torn Ivory Coast to success in South Australia, and how George finds his feet—and his future—in construction.
