Veolia Environmental Services project at Gillman terminated
In 2017 the South Australian Government selected Veolia Environmental Services (Australia) Pty Ltd in an open market EOI process, to develop approximately 200 hectares of government-owned land at Gillman in north-western Adelaide.
As part of the successful tender Veolia proposed to deliver grid-scale energy generation projects including a waste-to-energy facility and a large-scale solar farm. The agreement became active in June 2018, after Veolia purchased approximately 20 hectares of the Gillman land.
Veolia has not met the milestones set out in this agreement with the South Australian Government and has elected not to take up its option to continue with this project. Both parties have agreed to terminate the existing project agreements, enabling the South Australian government to pursue new solutions for the land’s use.
A spokesperson for Veolia said:
“In light of global events and unforeseen changes to market conditions, Veolia has come to an agreement with the South Australian Government to exit from the Gillman project. In doing so, the government will be able to move forward with alternative options to maximise the land’s potential through reuse, something we fully endorse and support.”
Renewal SA’s General Manager Project Delivery and Property, Todd Perry said:
‘We are disappointed that Veolia’s development at Gillman will not proceed. This land has long been identified as being of economic importance to the State due to its size and location, and Veolia’s departure will delay progress towards the achievement of potential employment generating activities’.
‘In light of government’s recent commitments at Osborne and at Edinburgh Parks, which both support defence and general industries for the State, Renewal SA is now reviewing the development strategy and desired outcomes for this site to ensure this immensely strategic and important State landholding can be utilised to drive economic growth into the future’.
