A massive increase in regional housing could soon be on the way with 12 new projects set to receive State Government funding and support through the $10 million Regional Housing Initiatives Program (RHIP).

These projects have the potential to deliver up to 229 new residential allotments, 87 houses and 90 short-stay rooms across regional South Australia. This additional supply of housing outcomes will help to deliver much needed key worker housing to unlock economic growth and improve government service delivery.

Thirty submissions to the RHIP were received for consideration by Renewal SA’s Office for Regional Housing (OFRH) from councils, developers and housing providers.

Subject to final agreements, the 12 successful projects will be delivered over the next 2-3 years in partnership with the OFRH. The projects are located across the Eyre Peninsula, Limestone Coast, Far and Mid North, Yorke Peninsula and the Riverland.

The announcement follows the successful completion of four homes in Port Augusta in September and which will house essential health and SAPOL workers.

Matt Hunt, OFRH director, said the pace in which the homes which were delivered three months ahead of time in Port Augusta, was a “fantastic outcome”.

“The challenge will now be working with successful development applicants across the regions to be able to deliver these next developments which will no doubt make a significant impact across many communities,” Mr Hunt said.

The 2024 – 2025 State Budget included a commitment of $20 million for more regional housing projects to come online over the next two to three financial years.

Further information with specific project details will be released once commercial terms have been finalised with preferred parties.
