The last car rolled off the Mitsubishi manufacturing line at Tonsley in 2008. Ten years on, the site has been transformed into Australia’s most awarded innovation district, with a focus on future industries.

The Tonsley Open Day will be held in the iconic Main Assembly Building (known as the MAB) and will showcase the amazing open space as well as innovative businesses and organisations housed within this once-fenced-off 61-hectare site.

"There are now 32 businesses working within Tonsley Innovation District and over 150 members within the two coworking spaces; this is a great opportunity to learn more about what they do and see, hear and touch some of the technologies now being developed or utilised at Tonsley Innovation District," said Mark Devine, Acting Chief Executive Renewal SA.

Delivered by Renewal SA Tonsley Open Day will bring together South Australia’s big names in science and technology, industry-leading organisations, a host of community and not-for-profit groups, and a large number of science-related organisations.

For its Open Day, Tonsley has partnered up with the well known science and technology show – Science Alive! to give the public an opportunity to experience future technologies firsthand.

Offering hours of hands-on fun that is interactive, dynamic and educational for all ages, Science Alive! will be presenting incredible stage shows in the MAB, including Dr Quark’s Scientific Circus and the SciWorld Explosive Science Show.

South Australia’s Cosi Costello will also be joining in on the fun to celebrate some remarkable South Australian people, businesses and technologies, visiting various displays throughout the day and broadcasting their impressive and inspiring stories back to the main stage.

Attendees will receive a Discover Tonsley Passport as they enter the MAB encouraging them to explore a trail of multiple stands and locations, collect stamps and receive a free hologram pyramid to make their own holographic video at home. In addition, those who participate can go into the draw to win some amazing prizes.

Renewal SA is grateful for the generous support of all involved in the inaugural Tonsley Open Day and in particular, our sponsors Tonsley Village, Flinders University, TAFE SA and the City of Marion.

The Tonsley Open Day will be held in the MAB at Tonsley Innovation District on Sunday 24 March 2019 from 10.00am–4.00pm. RSVP on Facebook.
