An expression of interest is now open through Renewal SA to purchase and develop Lot 34 on the western side of the stunning Main Assembly Building (or MAB) and adjacent to the new Tonsley Village development, where the first of 850 homes are now being constructed.

Tonsley is located on the site of the former Mitsubishi car factory in Adelaide’s southern suburbs, between the CBD and the McLaren Vale wine region and beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula.

It is now home to more than 30 businesses and more than 1400 people are employed on the site – more than when the last car rolled off the production line in the MAB in 2008.

Lot 34 also neighbours expansive landscaped public areas and the iconic Boiler House, now being redeveloped by Kidd Retail Group as a manufacturing brewery which will also offer a bar, restaurant and café.

Lot 34 is in close walking distance to Flinders University’s College of Science and Engineering, the TAFE SA Sustainable Industries Education Centre and the Clovelly Park railway station. It sits near Tonsley’s main western entrance and on the main thoroughfare leading from the railway station.

Access roads will be built on the northern and southern boundaries of Tonsley and it is estimated that more than 5000 vehicles will pass Lot 34 each day when they are completed.

The retail site along with the redeveloped Boiler House is expected to become Tonsley’s most popular meeting, entertainment and retail place and a hospitality and retail destination for southern Adelaide.

Renewal SA is looking for a supermarket as an anchor tenant on Lot 34 and the provision of fresh food specialty stores such as a bakery, butcher, seafood retailer and a fruit and vegetable shop, plus a newsagency and consumer services such as a fitness centre, travel agency and banks.

In keeping with Tonsley’s profile as Australia’s most awarded innovation district, it is anticipated the retail development will provide a modern, innovative and future-orientated retail experience, inviting visitors to linger and enjoy spending time in the district.

Expressions of interest close 2.00 pm Friday 10 August 2018 (Australian Central Standard Time).
