The first residential development opportunity within Port Adelaide’s historic waterfront precinct will be released to developers and builders by Renewal SA.

Located in Port Adelaide’s State Heritage precinct, 6 – 10 McLaren Parade presents a significant and unique development opportunity that is just metres away from the waterfront.

Lead developer will be selected through expressions of interest to contract, subdivide and develop this key site at the heart of the strategic McLaren Wharf Precinct.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development John Rau said he anticipated this development opportunity would be sought after by developers.

“Prospective purchasers will be required to submit offers including their proposed concept, use of the site and commercial offer in their submission,” he said.

“These will be evaluated by Renewal SA to ensure high standards are met.”

Member for Port Adelaide Susan Close said the state government’s Precinct Plan provides a long-term blueprint to guide and prioritise renewal activities over the next 20 years.

“Port Adelaide is evolving from a historic shipping and industrial harbour to a contemporary urban area,” Dr Close said.

“This government’s vision for Port Adelaide is to create a ‘Living Port’ that celebrates our past while embracing new ideas, innovation and development.

“This opportunity to be involved in a significant and unique development at McLaren Parade just metres away from the waterfront is the latest step in our strategic investment in the Port.”

The McLaren Wharf Precinct incorporates some of the Port’s most iconic places; the famous Black Diamond Square, Port Adelaide Lighthouse, Lipson St, Fisherman’s Wharf markets and Customs House.

Developers will be expected to take advantage of the area’s existing character and strong sense of history, with designs fitting with the Port Adelaide State Heritage Policy and the Port Adelaide Precinct Plan.
