Restaurant illuminated with new street lighting on Peel Street at night.

Different lighting options have been trialed by Renewal SA and the City of Adelaide, who have liaised with local traders to gather feedback on the proposed lighting.

“We have worked with traders in Peel Street to strike the right balance for lighting the laneways, creating atmosphere, and creating a safe area for pedestrians and patrons of the street’s venues, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights,” said City of Adelaide Minister, John Rau.

The existing temporary festoon lighting was installed in preparation for the festival season to encourage people to spend longer in our laneways and in doing so support small businesses and enhance the night time economy through investment in our CBD.

Permanent, dimmable festoon lighting will be installed in the coming weeks.

The Right Honorable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Martin Haese, noted, “Along with initiatives such as waiving this year’s outdoor dining fees for many operators, this measure is another project that will add to the vibrancy of our city’s alfresco scene.”
