A familiar face with 25 years' experience in the property industry has been appointed to lead the South Australian Government's property development agency following a nationwide search.
Shane Wingard has been appointed Renewal SA’s Chief Executive after serving 11 months in the acting role following the departure of Chris Menz in September last year.
Mr Wingard first joined the agency in 2006, leading high-profile projects including the urban renewal of Bowden during a nine-year tenure before returning in 2017 following a short stint in the private sector.
Renewal SA's staff were informed of the appointment by Presiding Board Member Stephen Hains AM on Monday morning.
"Shane's appointment reflects the Board's confidence in his continued leadership of the organisation and in the strength, capability and future direction of Renewal SA," Mr Hains said.
Mr Hains said Renewal SA was entering a period of growth and opportunity.
"Alongside increasing demand for housing, the agency is playing an expanding role in supporting investment, industrial and employment growth, and South Australia's growing defence sector," he said.
Under Mr Wingard's leadership, Renewal SA has delivered the $200 million Deep Maintenance and Modification Facility ahead of time and on budget.
The agency has also forged key partnerships with the private sector on the $1 billion Southwark Grounds development and partnered with Lanser on a project that will deliver 1,000 homes at Onkaparinga Heights.
Mr Wingard said it was a privilege to lead an organisation with such an important role in shaping South Australia's future.
"Renewal SA has a significant growth agenda over the coming years, and I am confident we have the team and capability to continue delivering projects that increase housing supply, create jobs, attract investment and strengthen communities,” Mr Wingard said.
"I look forward to continuing to work with government, industry, our customers and community partners to deliver projects with pace and purpose that create lasting value for South Australia."
Mr Wingard's appointment takes effect immediately.
