For six months, the Works Program/KIK Coffee initiative will support InspiredBUY and the Dream BIG program (funded through the Department of State Development) to create jobs for 20 young people.

KIK Coffee is a part of a youth entrepreneurial program, with a mission to tackle long term unemployment and the increasing disengagement among youth. It is the first project for InspiredBUY—an organisation that attracts support for social enterprises to help young people discover their talents and contribute to their communities, through a flexible adult education approach to their training programs, as well as wrap-around services to support young people to address a range of issues in their lives.

"The KIK Coffee training model allows young people to creatively co-design social enterprises together that are investable and provide job creation." — Louise Nobes, KIK Coffee Found and Chief Executive

Program training is not only in café attendant and barista roles but includes brand development and entrepreneurship, which are vital skills for young people moving in a fast paced, changing workforce environment.

KIK Coffee will also provide up to 10 local high school students with an opportunity to acquire valuable hospitality and entrepreneurship skills through the program over the next six months.

"Young people will have the opportunity to begin their employment pathway to become an exceptional barista, a coffee connoisseur and hospitality enthusiast through learning high level customer service and food service skills." — Georgina Vasilevski, General Manager, People and Place Management, Renewal SA

In just under 12 months, KIK Coffee has achieved an 80 per cent success rate, having trained 48 young people and created jobs for 38 young people.

Renewal SA previously sought expressions of interest for short to medium term ideas for activities and events to be placed within the blank spaces at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site, which would offer cultural, social, recreational and economic benefits to South Australia. This initiative supports Renewal SA’s commitment to social inclusion and economic development within the activation program for the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site.

KIK Coffee will operate within the existing kiosk space in the McEwin Building fronting North Terrace at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
