A word from the Chief Executive
The development sector holds a significant opportunity to assist in driving the growth of the state at a time when it is needed most.
We need to work together to do this because the best and most impactful outcomes will come from genuine partnerships between the development sector locally and government. The message from us is very clear—Renewal SA is here for growth and jobs, and the growth of the private sector is critical to ensure this occurs.
Recently, we have welcomed members from the Urban Development Institute of Australia and Property Council of Australia to Lot Fourteen to meet the Renewal SA executive team, hear from us on our agency’s strategic direction and opportunities coming to market, and hear from the team about the progress at Lot Fourteen and next steps for the project.
The invitation was put to attendees to reach out to our new executive team to get to know them and share some of the challenges being faced by the private sector. To achieve our aim of working together and making an impact on the South Australian economy, we must understand the issues that are being faced by the industry; to understand the challenges and provide opportunities for development and investment in our state.
Engaging with our industry colleagues and offering insight into our organisation, projects and ways to work with us, is a crucial step in working together to get the best outcomes for South Australia and our economy.
Renewal SA has just announced the purchase of two sites at Forestville and Prospect. We will be working closely with the development sector to complete master planning for both sites, and carefully considering how the development of these sites will meet the needs of the South Australian community now and into the future. We will also be seeking to work in partnership with the private sector to deliver these two developments, which will support an average of 170 jobs over the five to six-year development period.
In an effort to continue to drive housing activity and ensure delivery of a range of housing, including affordable housing, Renewal SA and the South Australian Housing Authority have issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) inviting interest from the building and development sectors to participate in projects that drive supply. We are committed to accelerating development that increases the supply of affordable housing for sale to a mix of low and moderate-income homebuyers. Proposals are to be submitted by 16 October 2020.
We also recently closed the first round EOI for the Lot Fourteen Entrepreneur and Innovation Centre (EIC) and look forward to progressing a decision as a priority, to continue to see Lot Fourteen contribute to the growth of the state. The EIC represents the first of many opportunities for the private sector to invest in the Lot Fourteen project, and a landmark development for the state.
In terms of future projects and opportunities, Renewal SA will shortly be releasing its planned timeframes for the release of several private development and partnership opportunities, including several residential projects.
To ensure that we have the right people to deliver our projects and oversee our property development projects, I am pleased to welcome Vy Collins to Renewal SA in the role of Senior Director, People and Culture and Todd Perry as our new General Manager for Project Delivery and Property.
Vy is an experienced human resources leader, specialising in employee relations, culture and industrial relations. She has been working to drive the right culture and ensure that we have the skills required to contribute to the state. She joins us from the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment and is passionate about enhancing the performance of an organisation by unlocking the potential of its people.
Todd is excited to return to his hometown after 16 years in Sydney. He is an experienced property executive who joins us from multinational developer Frasers Property Australia. Todd will oversee the majority of our trading projects and our substantial asset and property management portfolio.
These latest appointments mean that, together with Damian De Luca and Tony Cole, our new Renewal SA executive team is now complete and ready to work together with the sector to stimulate the property industry and have a positive impact on the South Australian economy.
We look forward to collaborating with you to unlock new opportunities.
Chris Menz, Chief Executive
