The Adelaide Riverbank’s northern promenade will become a boulevard of light from tonight with new feature lighting installed between Montefiore Road and the King William Road bridges.

Almost 40 trees on either site of the Riverbank footbridge will be flooded with light along a 660-metre stretch of the boulevard.

The permanent feature will enhance the natural beauty of the precinct while also improving safety along one of Adelaide’s most popular destinations.

The lights can be programmed to change colours for significant events and game day celebrations at Adelaide Oval.

The lighting has been supplied and installed by local South Australian contractors including Rawsons Electrical, Buckford Illumination Group and INLITE SA.

The new permanent lighting will be switched on at 8:30pm Wednesday 28 December 2016.

During summer months the lighting is programmed to run from 8:30pm until 1am each night and will be reprogrammed for non-daylight saving periods.

The first event-themed coloured lighting display will be on show for the Australia Day cricket match on 26 January at Adelaide Oval.
