Work has begun on 42 affordable rental apartments at Seaton, as a neighbouring 22-apartment public housing development nears completion, marking another major milestone in the suburb's transformation.
National construction company Badge has broken ground on the five-storey complex on Frederick Road, opposite The Grange Golf Club and adjacent to the new state-of-the-art public housing project.
The $20 million, architecturally designed development will comprise a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, with the ground and first floor dwellings designed to meet disability accommodation requirements.
Peter Gatsios, Renewal SA’s Executive Director of Residential Project Delivery and Assets said the homes would make a valuable contribution to housing diversity and affordability in Adelaide's western suburbs, close to jobs, schools, transport and services.
"We are transforming a suburb made up of small homes on large blocks with limited public amenity into a sought-after neighbourhood offering housing options across the affordability spectrum," Mr Gatsios said.
"These apartments are being built as high-quality, energy-efficient homes, equipped with car parking, modern appliances and private balconies."
Jim Whiting, Executive Chair of Badge said he was very pleased to deliver the "high quality, affordable units" for the community his company had operated in for 45 years.
The Warri Apartments, which means 'breeze' in Kaurna language, were designed by Walter Brooke, an Adelaide-based architectural practice with more than 40 years' experience.
Renewal SA is leading the delivery of the project, which is supported by the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF), a Commonwealth initiative aimed at increasing social and affordable housing across the nation.
"The HAFFF is helping deliver affordable housing across our portfolio, with more than 100 tenants already living in similar developments at Prospect Corner and Renewal SA has another affordable housing project under construction at Bowden," Mr Gatsios said.

Upon completion, Renewal SA will work with a community housing provider to manage the building and lease the homes to eligible tenants at 75 per cent of market rent.
The homes are expected to be completed by the end of 2027, bringing the project's first stage closer to completion. Stage 1 comprises a total of 138 homes.
Adjacent to the new development, 22 two-bedroom apartments are progressing, being delivered by SARAH on behalf of the South Australian Housing Trust.
The four-storey building, expected to be complete by the end of the year, contributes to the renewal of high-quality public housing in the area and includes communal spaces, 22 car on site carparks and integrated landscaping.
Further apartment buildings are expected to be delivered in future stages of the Seaton project.
Renewal SA's vision will see the one-for-one replacement of 388 ageing public homes and deliver a total of approximately 1,452 new private and public homes over the life of the project. More than 20% of the new homes will be offered as affordable housing.
The Seaton renewal project is being delivered by Renewal SA in partnership with the South Australian Housing Trust over the next decade within an area bounded by Frederick Road, Glenburnie Street, West Lakes Boulevard and Tapleys Hill Road.
