From 1 July 2018, SA Housing Authority became responsible for renewing social housing on behalf of the Government of South Australia.
The Woodville Gardens urban renewal project will replace ageing South Australian Housing Trust homes with new, better quality social housing and increase the supply and variety of new and affordable homes.
The Woodville Gardens urban renewal project is located 9 kilometres from the CBD and covers an area of approximately 5.2 hectares.
The area is bordered by Hanson Road to the west, Humphries Terrace to the east, Ridley Grove to the north and Eighth Avenue to the south.
The project will involve the staged redevelopment and refurbishment of 114 aged properties owned by the South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT).
New social housing will deliver a range of choices in the size and design of new housing resulting in more suitable options for Housing SA tenants. Land will also be created for the development of new housing by the private sector.
SAHT homes that are prioritised for redevelopment have already resulted in many tenants being relocated to other SAHT homes.
We are committed to making the relocation process as easy as possible by keeping tenants fully informed and doing all we can to offer tenants a home that matches their needs.
While our Tenant Relationship and Transition Unit is in regular contact with tenants to ensure their relocation is a positive experience, they are welcome to call the Tenant Hotline on 1300 918 814.
In 2016, Renewal SA released an expression of interest seeking private sector submissions to plan and deliver the redevelopment of Woodville Gardens. The decision was made not to proceed with any of the proposals submitted during the expression of interest process.
Renewal SA undertook some redevelopment on behalf of the SAHT. The initial phase of redevelopment commenced in early 2018 and involves the construction of 16 new SAHT homes across the project area, plus the sale of vacant land on Danvers Grove and Hanson Road to the private sector. Other smaller sites may be offered for sale and redevelopment in the future.
Planning for future phases of redevelopment is currently under way, and as plans are confirmed updates will be provided by the SA Housing Authority who are now responsible for social housing renewal in South Australia.
