From 1 July 2018, SA Housing Authority became responsible for renewing social housing on behalf of the Government of South Australia.
The Oaklands Park expression of interest sought private sector participation in replacing ageing South Australian Housing Trust homes with new, better quality social housing and increasing the supply and variety of new and affordable housing.
On 29 August 2017 Renewal SA released an expression of interest seeking private sector interest in planning and delivering the renewal of SA Housing Trust properties in part of Oaklands Park.
The Oaklands Park renewal area is situated approximately 8 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD. The area is bordered by Barry Street to the west, Bombay Street to the east, the Warradale Barracks to the north on Bombay Street, and Murray and Doreen Streets to the south. Download the boundary map below.
The potential renewal may involve the staged building of new social housing providing a range of housing designs and sizes to better meet the needs of South Australians in need of social housing.
Land will also be created for the development of new housing by the private sector.
At this early stage, communication to tenants and residents within the area has been limited to details about the release of the expression of interest.
Should the SA Housing Trust decide to appoint a developer, opportunities for community consultation will be provided.
Following the evaluation of proposals a preferred developer has been selected and negotiations are continuing.
A decision about whether or not to proceed with the preferred developer is expected in late 2019.
Communication updates will be provided as details are confirmed.
