The River Street Marden renewal project is part of the state government’s Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs initiative, which is in the process of renewing up to 4500 ageing SA Housing Trust properties by 2020.
The development is estimated to support about 50 direct and indirect full-time jobs per year over a three-year construction period and generate investment of approximately $22 million.
The River Street site adjoins a successful new residential development, Marden Connect, by Qattro, which was built following purchase of that site from Renewal SA in 2014.
Sixty-one new homes are set to be built, including 37 two- and three-storey terraces and a four-storey building encompassing 24 apartments overlooking Linear Park.
All homes will achieve a 6-star energy rating including solar power and the estate will reuse stormwater.
Concepts feature a pocket park for community use and 20 per cent of the homes will be sold as part of the Affordable Housing Program.
In December 2016, Renewal SA and Hummingbird Projects invited the community to attend a community 'drop-in and chat' session, to gain information about the renewal of Marden, view the proposal and provide comments for consideration by the State Coordinator General.
Feedback gathered from the community drop-in session and the community comment submissions received have been compiled into an engagement report (download right or below), which will be considered by the State Coordinator General as part of the planning approval process.
