From 1 July 2018, SA Housing Authority became responsible for renewing social housing on behalf of the Government of South Australia.
Renewal of South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT) properties in Kilburn and Blair Athol will be focused on the areas bound by Churchill Road, Inwood Avenue, Prospect Road and Northcote Street in Kilburn and by Prospect Road, Grand Junction Road, Main North Road and Marmion Avenue in Blair Athol.

The planned renewal of Kilburn and Blair Athol when implemented and staged over a period of five to 10 years, aims to:
Deliver improved and greater housing choice by:
Maintain and nurture existing community strengths, such as cultural diversity, resilience and a strong sense of community and aim to minimise potential negative impacts.
Encourage staged future improvements to the quality of the public spaces and facilities including:
Manage the interface with industry through appropriate land uses and building design.
Provide employment and training opportunities for local residents (particularly youth) via links to future construction and landscaping phases of implementation.
The state government has committed $3 million in funding matched by Council, providing a total of $6 million towards delivering infrastructure upgrades, high quality public spaces and stormwater improvements.
The renewal of Kilburn and Blair Athol will be delivered in two precincts with Blair Athol to be delivered as the first precinct.
The SAHT’s commitment to urban renewal in Blair Athol, in partnership with Council, will deliver a staged upgrade of streets and parks and improved stormwater management to mitigate existing and future flooding risks in the area.
Renewal in Blair Athol will deliver a range of new homes including affordable and social housing on vacant land bound by Latrobe Street, Rosedale Avenue, Ashburton Street and Florence Avenue.
Planning for future stages of renewal is currently under way and updates will be provided as plans are confirmed.
Community feedback was gathered in 2016 on options for future redevelopment in Kilburn and Blair Athol.
This engagement with the local community built on previous comments and ideas provided by local stakeholders including ways to improve the neighbourhood, particularly in reference to the type of housing built, location of parks and reserves, and accessibility to public transport, services and the city.
The community will be kept informed about the ongoing planned redevelopment of the Kilburn and Blair Athol area.
