Oaklands Park residential renewal opportunity
Expressions of interest are being sought to renew older SA Housing Trust dwellings within a area of almost 8 hectares in Oaklands Park, resulting in construction jobs and millions of dollars in private investment.
Approximately 120 South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT) properties built prior to 1968 will be rejuvenated through the Oaklands Park Renewal Project to deliver a mix of new social, affordable and private housing approximately 8 kilometres from the CBD. The Oaklands Park project area is situated east of Morphett Road, and is bounded by the Sturt Creek and the Seaford–Adelaide train line to the west, and the Warradale Army Barracks to the north.
The project is part of the Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs (ROSAS) initiative, which involves renewing 4500 pre-1968 Housing Trust homes by 2020. The ROSAS initiative also aims to:
- deliver 1000 new SAHT homes in 1000 days
- transfer tenancy management of 5000 SAHT homes to community housing providers.
“Changing demographics have meant that there is a greater need for one and two bedroom homes rather than larger homes of previous generations.” – Michael Buchan, General Manager, Property Management, Renewal SA
In achieving this renewal, the ROSAS initiative is expected to generate more than $1.2 billion of direct private and public investment in new housing and construction projects, supporting an estimated 1600 jobs a year.
So far 1791 homes have been released to the market through 27 expressions of interest and other programs, while 193 new or refurbished homes have been completed and construction is progressing on 123 homes.
“It is a prime location and unique opportunity to renew one of Adelaide’s inner metropolitan suburbs on such a scale, and we expect strong interest from a variety of groups and organisations, not just the traditional residential developers.” – Simon Lambert, Managing Director, McGees Property
Expressions of interest (EOIs) for the Oaklands Park Renewal Project close on 4 October 2017. Visit our Developer Gateway for more information or to submit an EOI (registration required).
