These history and heritage tours will encourage visitors to connect with the rich history of the site and learn about how the former hospital contributed to the fabric of Adelaide for over 150 years.

Visitors will learn about the stories of previous workers and occupants by walking through the site and experiencing first hand some of the heritage buildings, as well as accessing areas that were previously only accessible by authorised personnel whilst operating as a hospital.

The new tours will promote the site’s history and heritage, as well as connecting the community to the site as it transforms into a creation and innovation neighbourhood.

The former Royal Adelaide Hospital site is being positioned as a go-to destination for unique, creative, innovative and cultural activities by activating the site through a mix of uses and delivering public activation.

“The heritage buildings will come to life as history tours will be available for the first time at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site,” said Renewal SA General Manager, People and Place, Georgina Vasilevski.

“Consistent activity on the site not only provides economic prospects, but also creates social momentum and interest, and offers the chance for the community to create their own sense of ownership of the former RAH site.”

The emerging creation and innovation precinct will create high-value jobs and industries that will secure the future for generations of South Australians to come and position Adelaide as the start-up capital of Australia. Learn more about this by visiting the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site web page.

The new history and heritage tours will allow people to interact with the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site and gain an appreciation of the considerable history associated with this unique piece of Adelaide.
