New era of retail ramps up at Adelaide Railway Station
The arrival of Everyday Women, Coco Jumbo, Bit., Mornings Konbini and Elementary Coffee is part of a three-year revitalisation project being led by Renewal SA on behalf of the state government that will see the station grow and diversify its retail offerings.
Renewal SA Director of City Projects, Matt Hunt, said the five new outlets will play an important role in breathing new life into Adelaide’s treasured historic terminal.
“The new tenancies will rejuvenate the main station ramp after a period of dormancy and offer commuters a diverse mix of retail options spanning beauty and makeup, sustainable coffee and delicious local and international food and drink.
“Each new business offers something unique to the Adelaide Railway Station experience and two of our new tenants – Everyday Women and Bit. – will be taking their first ever foray into the world of bricks and mortar retail.
“We are delighted to offer these South Australian-owned businesses an opportunity to diversify their customer base and contribute to the new and emerging retail culture of the Adelaide Railway Station.
“As a result of the revitalisation works, the Adelaide Railway Station will once again be a destination, not just a thoroughfare,” said Mr Hunt.
The establishment of the five new tenancies on the station ramp will complement long-standing tenants Station Kiosk and Donut Inn, as well as recent arrival Platform 10, which currently operates from the station concourse.
SKYCITY Adelaide Casino’s new restaurant and bar, The Guardsman, is also due to open later this year in the rediscovered Overland Dining Hall, further energising an overlooked space.
“The groundswell of activity at the Adelaide Railway Station reflects our over-arching vision to uplift and expand the public amenity of the station and enable it fulfil its true potential as a significant economic and social asset for our city,” Mr Hunt said.
Already a favoured gateway to the city, hills and beaches, the station is used by approximately 230,000 commuters per week, which amounts to 12 million patrons per year, as well as thousands more who visit or pass through to the Adelaide Riverbank.
Renewal SA is making a substantial capital commitment to the rejuvenation of the Adelaide Railway Station which will see the restoration of heritage facades, upgrade and expansion of retail spaces and attraction of new and innovative businesses.
Meet the station’s newest residents:
A walk-in professional styling service that will also accommodate bookings for city-goers who want to look their best at the office or when attending a function or heading out for a night in the city. Operated by professional makeup artist Rebecca Joy Burton of the Everyday Women Makeup Academy.
A colourful juicery and salad bar that will offer a fresh and wholesome mix of cold press juices, superfood smoothies, hearty soups and green lunch fare. Owned by Dominic Matricciani who already operates a Coco Jumbo site in Topham Mall.
A new bubble tea venture that aims to make the popular Taiwanese tea beverage accessible to train-goers by offering a simple, curated selection of road-tested flavour combinations. Owned by Adelaide-based digital marketing agency Sky Foundry.
A down-to-earth take on the Japanese ‘konbini’ (convenience store) that will offer simple yet delicious Japanese sandos, sushi, instant ramen bowls, authentic cheesecake tarts, sweets and drinks imported from the Land of the Rising Sun. Owned by Jason Barber who runs Mornings Coffee on Peel Street.
A coffee roastery and café that will offer exceptional coffee sourced only from ethical and sustainable farms across the world, as well as bush tucker-inspired lunches featuring fresh native Australian ingredients. Owned by Brad Nixon who operates two existing Elementary Coffee outlets on Young Street and Flinders Street.
