Community planning

We work with community members and other stakeholders to plan and design residential areas to ensure that the resulting communities are safer, stronger, wealthier and more sustainable.

Our community planning activities involve planning for the needs and aspirations of communities around things like:

• accessibility and mobility
• health and safety
• community development
• cultural heritage
• cultural development.

Other important things that are included in our community plans are:

• economic development and employment
• housing
• participation
• recreation
• human services
• community facilities.

Our projects provide a diversity of dwellings, facilities and mixed uses that reflect the broad socio-economic needs of a community.

Our precincts are located close to employment areas and education and learning systems and facilities.

Our communities have their own character and identity where items or places of cultural and heritage significance are interpreted and celebrated.

Our communities provide access to local services such as transport, food, shopping, sports and fitness and health as well as schools, childcare, parks, playgrounds, recreational facilities and other amenities.

Our communities include gathering places –streets, footpaths, parks, buildings, and other public spaces that invite interaction and foster healthier, sociable and economically viable communities.

We facilitate walking and cycling and ‘streets for people’ in our communities.

Our projects are valued by the community and admired by visitors.

We create environments for all ages, abilities,
cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

We make sure we understand existing communities and link the new with the established.
