By building 1000 homes in 1000 days we can stimulate the housing and construction industry, support local job creation and better serve the needs of South Australian Housing Trust tenants.
In its 2015-2016 mid-year budget review the Government of South Australia dedicated $208 million over three years to help stimulate the housing and construction industry. Building 1000 homes in 1000 days is just one of the initiatives aimed at supporting and generating confidence in the sector.
It is estimated that the building of these new homes will generate approximately 400 jobs in 2016, with 500 jobs in its second and third years, for a total of 900 new employment opportunities for South Australians.
Improving outcomes for SA Housing Trust tenants is also a major motivation for building 1000 homes in 1000 days. By increasing the supply of new housing in suburbs that people want to live in we can locate more tenants close to the essential services they need to access, such as public transport and schools.
Building 1000 homes in 1000 days will deliver a boost to metropolitan and regional economies
About the project
The new SA Housing Trust homes will be built on existing public land, with more than 500 of these new houses to be built in greater Adelaide, for example Mount Barker, and in regional locations including Naracoorte, Goolwa and the Barossa Valley.
Building 1000 homes in 1000 days is part of the Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs strategy, which aims to replace old SA Housing Trust dwellings with new homes more suitable for our tenants.
To be invited to tender for 1000 homes opportunities, builders need to register to be placed on the Prequalified Builders Panel
Builders can apply to be considered for invitation to tender for South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT) building contracts at any time by completing a registration of interest application to join the SAHT’s Prequalified Builders (PQB) Panel.
After evaluation and approval of your registration of interest application for prequalification you are eligible to be considered and invited to tender for projects for which you are considered compliant.
Download and review the information paper before downloading, completing and submitting the application form.
In December 2016, Renewal SA held a Building Forum to provide important information and training to our Pre-qualified Builders regarding Minimum Design and Construction Specifications as well as Renewing Our Streets and Suburbs building opportunities and the 1000 Homes in 1000 Days program.
Topics covered on the day included a program overview, design guidelines, planning overview, procurement and contracting, design and construction specifications and the Renewal SA Works program.
Audio presentations from the day are available to download right.
