Portal connects Adelaide Fringe to the world at Lot 14
Fringe on World Tour
On Saturdays during the Adelaide Fringe, performers will step into Adelaide_Portal and connect live as if they were in the same space with people in Colorado and Brooklyn, Gaza in Israel and Erbil in Iraq, through the latest in immersive technology.
These Fringe On World Tour performances including acapella singers, magicians and comedians will be broadcast through the portal to the other side of the world in real time.
Performances will spill out to the surrounding courtyard, where there will be children’s activities on offer with face painting, balloon twisters, bubble performers, live music, tasty food and beverage offerings from local tenants.
Join us as we share the colour, the sounds and the magic of Adelaide Fringe with the world. Adelaide_Portal will be a space to entertain and be entertained throughout February and March.

Renewal SA is currently hosting Adelaide_Portal at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site, the only one in the Southern Hemisphere, a gold shipping container equipped with immersive audio visual technology that connects and open dialogues with many of the 25 portals around the world, as if you were in the same space.
Lot 14 Pop-up
In addition to Adelaide_Portal, Renewal SA has created a new activation zone during Adelaide’s festival period in the former hospital emergency car park. The first activation in this space is the new Lot 14 Pop-up, which will showcase some of the best and local South Australian food offerings from East End Cellars, The Sparkke Change Beverage Company, Eros Kafe and Locapops.
Lot 14 Pop-up, is trading Fridays through to Sundays for the duration of the city’s festival period, and will include performances by local musicians, roving performances and a crowd DJ – a digital jukebox that can be programmed by patrons.
What are ‘activations’? Why are they important?
Fringe on World Tour and Lot 14 Pop-up are just two of the regular activations planned for this year at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site to ensure the site achieves its full potential in contributing to the fabric of the city, whilst transforming into one of Australia’s premier creative and innovative neighbourhoods.
Activations like these encourage people to get up close and personal with the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site, to reconnect and learn that the space is no longer a hospital.
Only months after the former Royal Adelaide Hospital closed over 5000 people have already started to get to know this new urban destination. The former Royal Adelaide Hospital site has never been more open to the community to experience.
The site will offer a range of different activities and activations curated either by Renewal SA or external operators, providing a glimpse into the redevelopment’s vision while the site is transitioning into a significant culture attractor and innovative neighbourhood.
Hosting these activations is an important part of Renewal SA’s plan to support Adelaide’s prominent East End and surrounding businesses by adding vibrancy and new economic development through attracting more people to the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
Visit the Adelaide Riverbank website for further information on activities at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
